Tell us a little about yourself.

Hey there, my name is Christina, a Chicago native and proud “twenty something grandma.” Some of my favorite things in life include: making lists, loose-leaf tea, deep conversations, potato chips, sweaters, and trips to Home Goods. One of my goals in life is to write a book.  That’s a work in progress for now.  I’m an avid Instagrammer and love keeping an eye out for beautiful scenes to share throughout the day. I’m convinced that the key to happiness is enjoying the simple things in life.  You’ll frequently find me treating myself to little sweets or staying in to read a book.

What’s your favorite thing to create?

A few years ago, I took a class in bookmaking.  I learned how to sew, bind, and create a book from scratch.  It’s an age-old craft where I can make something by hand. Ever since that class, I invested in the tools to make books on my own. When I can set aside time, I’ll bind books to create journals or agendas. They are my favorite thing to create and make for really meaningful, unique gifts.

How do you get ideas for your projects?

If I’m working on a DIY for my home, I’m usually inspired by something I want to change. A great example is redoing my dining room chandelier.  I disliked the original light fixture, but gave it a coat of paint and added some glass beads. Now it’s much more my style.  If I’m working on a general craft, I get inspired by Pinterest or items I see in a store that look easy enough to make on my own.

Christina, you have to tell us, have you always been crafty? If not, when did it start?

In today’s digital world, where everything lives “in the cloud,” I think humans are missing the tangible joys of creative life – the brush of a paint stroke, the sharp edge of a knitting needle, the feeling of pen to paper! So much of my adult life is spent on a computer that I found myself wanting to create things with my hands.  Over the last few years, I’ve spent much of my free time working on small crafts and attempting home DIYs. Some are a success and others failures, but I think its about the process not the outcome. Plus there’s nothing like holding something that you’ve made with your hands, it’s a really good feeling – “look world, I made this!”

Tell us a bit about your family! We want to know about you!!

I come from a family of five and am the eldest of three sisters. We all look very much alike, yet have grown into very distinct personalities over the years. Our house was female dominated, and my mother always made it a warm and happy place to be. Even the pets we had as kids were female! I remember my father joking that he was always outnumbered by us girls. I’m also very close with my grandmother and love visiting her for a good laugh. I now live with my husband and best friend, Ted. We are high school sweet hearts and met when we were fourteen.

What will you be writing about for Girl Meets Party?

I’m am so excited to contribute to Girl Meets Party! A lot of my work will be sharing my DIY crafts and décor as well as the occasional travel guide! I love documenting my projects and hope they inspire others to try something new.

What are you most excited for in the new year?

The older I get, the more I learn how important it is to set goals and give yourself direction. You have to live your life with a purpose or else you’ll wake up one day and wonder where you are. 2018 for me is going to be about finding that purpose and living with more intention.

Share your favorite quote with us.

My favorite quote is a short but powerful one from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Nights’ Dream – “Though she be but little she is fierce.” I think it speaks for itself.
