Life Lately with Gillian

The past few months have definitely been trying!! I’m a junior in college, and with that comes loads of stress. My classes are getting more difficult, and it is definitely harder to stay motivated when I have to take undergraduate requirements that don’t apply to my major. One of my New Year’s resolutions has been to figure out a way to motivate myself to work hard on things I’m not necessarily passionate about. This has proven difficult, but I am trying! My planner has become my best friend in terms of staying on track. It’s a weird place to be in, being so ready to graduate and move into the real world but also being terrified of it. Such is life though!

Thankfully, I was able to spend my winter break with my family in Michigan. It was super relaxing. My sister loves to bake, so we spent our days making all sorts of sweet treats. I also spent a lot of time with my mom planning a winter 2019 trip to Siesta Key, which is definitely going to be giving me the motivation I need this year. I was able to visit my sister in Washington D.C., which is always a good time. I’ve been there many times, but there are so many things to do in the city that it never gets old. This past trip, I visited the Newseum for the first time. Although it is pricey compared to the many free museums the city has to offer, I highly recommend it. From prize winning photography to an exhibit on the presidential dogs, there is something for everybody. One of my favorites was the true crime exhibit where they have the full Unibomber cabin. It’s really creepy, but I definitely wanted to be an FBI agent when I was younger so I was totally geeking out. D.C. is also a great food city! One of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had was at Tryst D.C., a cute little coffee shop/workspace in the Adams Morgan neighborhood. If you’re looking for a great brunch place or need to do some work while visiting D.C. I highly recommend it!

Less of an exciting story, I also recently got my wisdom teeth removed. Word to the wise- don’t procrastinate it if you need to get them out!! I majorly procrastinated the surgery and ended up having a complication that was a bit of a nightmare. Although, I did have my family and my dog to keep me company while I spent three days rewatching The Office and eating ice cream and recovering.

Now, I’m back in Chicago and hunkering down to get my work done in this freezing weather. Can you guys believe how cold it was last week?! Since my university cancelled classes during Chiberia I literally stayed inside for like three days. If anyone needs some Netflix recommendations during these frigid times, I have plenty!! Stay warm friends!!

Let's be friends!
