Finding a routine in chaos has been the name of my game lately. By lately, I, of course, mean the last ten months since I had Emilia. Taking Girl Meets Party full-time and picking up the title of Mom concurrently may not have been the brightest move… However, if we’re being honest, too much has always been my M.O. so it’s not too surprising. Side note: this photo is all too fitting because I’m constantly trying to ‘do it all’ with my bestie strapped to my chest. I actually screenshotted it from one of our videos so please excuse the lack of smiles. That’s off-brand for a Herrmannita.
I finally caught the hang of this whole ‘I’m an entrepreneur and a mom’ thing in the spring. Then, we bought the #HerrmannitoHouse. To say it’s been a ride is an understatement. This has been the most exciting and exhausting year of life. Ever.
The struggle is real
Defining a routine as a mom was hard. Then, molding what the ‘New Jen‘ looks like was a challenge. How do you find time for you, friends, other family members? Now, we’re in the throws of fully updating a home. Maybe I’d call it ‘Gut Rehab Lite’ because we’re not touching plumbing and electric. Thank God for The Matts Construction because I’d seriously lose it, ha! Our lead GC, Matt, has been SO patient and helpful. Regardless, it’s a year of drinking from the fire hose. Do you want to know the strange part? Somehow amidst this chaos, I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. I’m also the most frazzled. It’s a bit of a strange place to be…
So where’s the routine
Truthfully, there’s not. However, there is control over my top priorities and what I say no to. For instance, I’m turning away clients for the first time. Crazy, I know. I’m saying no to social things when I just want to be with my little family and when my body says ‘slow down, for the love of God, please slow down, Jen.’ I’m being dramatic, but I quite literally collapse on the couch by the time I indeed slow down.
I’ve always been big on setting my top 3 for the day (or week), but I’ve taken it a step higher. I’m starting to set themes for the day, and that’s helping me to feel settled. There are house days, blog days and consulting days so I can compartmentalize the work and let my mind slow down.
There’s also light at the end of the tunnel
The #HerrmannitoHouse will be done in a matter of weeks and life will slow down dramatically. Sure, we’ll be finding new routines in a new location, but it will be exciting. It’s a welcomed change we’ve anxiously awaited.
